The Limpopo High Court has handed down four lives sentence to a Limpopo lawyer who killed his four children aged between 3 and 9 in the incident that happened in February last year at Ga-Phasha village in Sekhukhune District.
The court found that the suspect Lucas Phasha 52, has brutally killed his own children with a sharp object. The court also heard that Phasha has previous convictions of murder, three counts of attempted murder and reckless driving.
He was therefore sentenced to four lives in prison, which effectively removes him from the society. The verdict was welcomed by many people in the gallery including the MEC for Social Development in the province Nkakareng Rakgoale who was in the court to support the victims’ family.
Rakgoale said the judgement would serve as a deterrent to would-be abusers as well as the murderers of children. “People of Pasha’s character must be removed permanently from the society, and I’m happy the court has done just that…I hope this will serve as a deterrent to the next offender that would think about harming kids,” she said.
Meanwhile the mother to the deceased children, Sylvia Monyela said she was relieved that justice has prevailed. “I’m very happy that he was given a long sentence although he has not yet admitted to killing them but he knows that he did it,” she said.
